Cynthia Mitchell introduced Jim Hooley, CEO Neighborhood Health Plan, and Carla Bettano, Project Director, Robin Roland.
Jim Hooley reviewed the history of Neighborhood Health Plan, explaining that it was a mission-oriented plan focusing on community and vulnerable populations. He explained how the Community Health Center works and reviewed a handout describing NHP.
Carla Bettano described how NHP would partner with the Island Health Plan to find cost effective solutions to healthcare problems. The next steps: establishing a provider network, finalizing rates, approval by the State, administering the product.
The “flip” from MA Health to the Island Health Plan was discussed, as was a “virtual health center” coordinated by the Health Council.
There were questions about complementary medical services like acupuncture. Carla Bettano explained that the Plan could grow to include other services, but might start out without them. Chiropractic services are covered.
The meeting adjourned at 10:05 AM.
